The Australian and New Zealand Burns Association (ANZBA) have developed well established best practice guidelines for the management of burns to provide consistency in the assessment, triage and wound care across health sector to ensure best outcomes for patients with a burn.  A clinical protocol and education program was developed in collaboration with the State Burns Service WA for Silverchain group.  A point prevalence of all burns in Silverchain group was conducted prior to implementation of the new burns protocol and education package

Aim:

The aim of the study to conduct an audit of current burns wound management to compare with pre-implementation and evaluate the clinical protocol process.

Determine prevalence and incidence of burns within Silverchain group

Examine if the assessment and care planning meet current protocol standards

Determine if the escalation and referral to the State Burns Service process was followed

Method:

A point prevalence study of burns patients admitted to Silverchain services in Western Australia will be conducted using the Comcare Wound Module® and Comcare® Clinical Notes, Silverchain” electronic health records.
